Matti Weckström, funded by the Academy of Finland and Sigrid Juselius Foundation JOB DESCRIPTION - research as a part of a multidisciplinary research team focused on studying neural mechanisms of information processing. Peripheral visual system and downstream ganglia of the insect brain will be used as an animal model. The appointees will be expected to concentrate on some part of the experimental work using electrophysiological methods. We have excellent facilities for research at single cell, network and whole animal level. Post-doctoral fellowship for studies of molecular mechanisms of cannabis action in the developing nervous system at the Institute of Medical Sciences, University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom. Cannabis smoking during pregnancy induces permanent modifications to neuronal connectivity in the developing fetal brain that underscores permanent modifications to various postnatal behaviours and cognitive functions in the offspring. We have preliminary data showing that disrupted signalling at neuronal cannabinoid receptors at particular stages of neurodevelopment induces surprisingly fundamental changes in how neuronal networks are wired and gain operational power. The aim of the proposed project is to identify cellular signalling networks downstream from neuronal cannabinoid receptors whose modifications by prenatal cannabis exposure lead to neuronal misidentification.
